Portugal will now grant residence visas to non-Europeans who buy houses for 500 thousand euros or more under a new law enacted in October.

The first "gold visa" was granted earlier this year in New Delhi to
an Indian businessman by Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Portas.

The gold visa is already proving popular with investors and private
individuals from the new economy "BRICS" countries (Brazil, Russia,
India, China, South Africa) as this enables them to have Schengen rules
access with the ability to travel freely within the 25 European countries
that make up the EU.

Amanda Lamb, Jasmine Harman, Jonnie Irwin and Laura Hamilton will be
at this spring's official overseas property exhibition that helps

so we came out for very long weekend. Our 5 days were great and much

There is a lot of established property at Praia do Bom Sucesso,
mostly built around 15 years ago, which means that the location has
mostly mature gardens trees and lawns which always looks more
pleasing to the eye than the concrete jungles of newer resorts.

The Royal Obidos golf course is up and running. This makes the beach
at Praia do Bom Sucesso, (sometimes known as Foz Gronho) a
financially more interesting and definitely much prettier investment
location on the West Coast of Portugal than inland resorts like
the Bom Sucesso design resort which is few miles up the lagoon.

Great holiday, wonderful location

Excellent customer service, great location with beautiful views.
Family and couple suited. Very clean and lay out of apartment user
friendly. Great views and some interesting places to visit not too

The apartment location is lovely with a gorgeous view. My boyfriend is a
twitcher (birdwatcher) and has some really powerful photographic
equipment, binoculars, and a telescope, so he was happy to spend
hours watching the lagoon wildlife from both the terrace and beside
the pool.

Lovely area, great apartment, super views

Lovely apartment with all the facilities you need for a great holiday
overlooking the lagoon. Very clean and laid out as described.
Excellent customer service from the owners, David and Christine.
Ideal for families and couples, you can have a quiet holiday if you
wish or a more fun filled one. Very good value for money and would
thoroughly recommend it.

Area is great for exploring, a wonderful buddha garden, dinosaur
footprints, and Obidos a lovely walled city.

We very much enjoyed staying at Cristina Apt. in Foz this year.
It was our first trip to the Silver Coast, having only done the
Algarve in the past. It's great to find so many friendly people
and see the real Portugal, and we loved Foz.

We are already thinking we might want to do the same again
next year, especially if there is any chance of a discount for
early booking?

In a glowing article about Lisbon for BBC Travel "Marina
O´Loughlin" writes, "I can't believe it's taken me so long to
get around to this enchanting city. But I'm so, so coming back."

The 2nd December article was published in partnership with Olive
magazine, which is part of the BBC Good Food stable. So of
course much of the first part concentrates on restaurants and
describes the "stunning" variety of food and eating experiences.

In the district of Saldanha she discovers the Café Versailles
which she described as "the most beautiful Art Nouveau café" she
had ever seen - "eat your heart out" Paris.

I saw the Flamingos on the island in the middle of the Obidos
Lagoon from the verandah of our rental apartment at Moinhos da
Costa, Foz do Arelho today.

The economic crisis and the suspension of credit by the banks
has forced the CampoReal luxury golf resort in Torres Vedras to
request bankruptcy protection while a financial restructuring
plan is put in place.

individuals and entities and we recently reported here that Zara
Phillips, (12th in line to the British throne, and with Mike

The Atlantic coast of Portugal is world renowned for it's
quality of surf. The World Surf Tour comes to Peniche on the
Silver Coast every year and Surfer Mag acknowledged Supertubes
(supertubos) and the Baleal beaches as being among the best
surfing spots in the world. Below is a very long video of two
Welsh Lads enjoying a full day of surf at one of the many surf
spot beaches at Peniche.

Extreme sports like Hang Gliding and Paragliding are popular on
the Silver Coast and pilots are frequently seen using thermals
to launch themselves from cliffs and then soaring above the
almost empty expanses of beach in various places from the Obidos
Lagoon to Nazare and beyond. This sequence below shows
Paragliding and "soaring" over the beach at Pedra do Ouro.

As well as Hang Gliding and Paragliding at the beach of Bom
Sucesso, Microlight aircraft fly from the small airfield at
Arelho located at the inland end of the Obidos Lagoon and I've

Hi David

We bought two properties off plan at Atlântico Village, Pedra do
Ouro in 2006 which are now complete. The intention was to sell
one of them but clearly the market is not ideal for doing that.

I wondered what your view is of the property market. We're now
going to rent that one out and 'forget' about it for 5 years. We
currently use the other as our holiday home. General view is
that things will be picking up but I'm always interested in
other people's opinions.

We've recently had a look around this four bedroom, three bathroom, luxury property for sale here on the Portugal Silver Coast and we took some of the photos for their web site.
