International School of Palmela (Colégio Islâmico)

The Islamic Community of Palmela / A Comunidade Islâmica de Palmela (CIP) was founded in 1996 and initially licensed for elementary education in 1998, over the years CIP expanded to cover the 2nd and 3rd cycles. In 2010 CIP began implementing the Cambridge International Curriculum and in 2011 CIP joined the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).

About 220 students per year attend the International School of Palmela. Most students belong to Muslim communities in the metropolitan area of Lisbon (Odivelas, Laranjeiro e Grande Lisboa). Others belong to the local community who do not profess the Islamic religion. In recent years, the school has welcomed students from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP).

The International School of Palmela offers:

  • Cambridge Primary (5 to 11 years): English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology (IT), Portuguese Language, Physical Education, Universal Studies.
  • Cambridge Secondary 1 (11 to 14 years): English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology, Portuguese Language, Physical Education, General Studies, Business Studies (Stage 9), Religious Studies (Stage 9).
  • Cambridge IGCSE: Business Studies, Mathematics, Combined Science, English, Information and Communication Technology, Religious Studies, Portuguese, Physical Education.
  • Cambridge AS e A Level: Biology, Global Perspectives, Mathematics, Applied ICT, Business Studies, Portuguese, Physical Education.
