A friend recommended Obidos and Foz lagoon for some horseback riding,
so we came out for very long weekend. Our 5 days were great and much
better than being stuck in our fancy Lisbon hotel.

The Royal Obidos golf course is up and running. This makes the beach
at Praia do Bom Sucesso, (sometimes known as Foz Gronho) a
financially more interesting and definitely much prettier investment
location on the West Coast of Portugal than inland resorts like
the Bom Sucesso design resort which is few miles up the lagoon.

The mediaeval festival is a popular event every summer in Obidos.
Lots of costumes and realistic events and stalls. Jousting in the
field etc.

We also enjoy the restaurants on the beach, particularly for a view of
the sunset while enjoying fresh sea bass cooked on a charcoal grill.

The Berlengas Islands nowadays are enjoyed for diving in crystal clear
waters and as a nature reserve.

The history of Berlengas is a long one with the islands referred to in
Ptolemy's Geography and later named the island of Saturno by Roman
geographers. It has been visited by Muslims, Vikings and pirates from
England and France.
