Hi David,
Just wanted to let you know what a lovely holiday we had at
Villa Cristina. It was everything we hoped for. A beautifully
kept apartment which felt very homely and cared for.
Unfortunately the weather let us down so we couldn't use the
pool or tennis courts but we will return in the Spring or Summer
and make full use of the facilities then.
Foz is an interesting place and we enjoyed our trips out to
Obidos, Peniche and Baleal. We also had a good hotel in Porto
which we would recommend (Hotel Eurostars das Artes) and managed
to even have a short cruise on the Douro.
Best wishes,
Elaine and Peter Dunkerley

Thanks very much for your review. It's great when folk take the time
to give us feedback, especially when it's good! I'm so glad you
enjoyed your visit and it shows there is more to Portugal than just
the sunshine. You were unlucky with the weather with your 4 days at
the end of October
According to the Government web site (metoffice.gov.uk), in the
summer months Portugal receives refreshing sea breezes, making for
very pleasant conditions. Average temperatures of around 25 °C (78
°F); and 11 or 12 hours of sunshine can be expected with as many as
29 dry days on average.
September and early October extend the summer. Average temperatures
can still be as high as 26 °C (79 °F), and sunshine of around 9 hours
in September fall to about 5 or 6 hours in November, and even in
November you can expect averages of 17 °C (63 °F). The end of the
autumn then moves to a wetter period, with about 12-17 dry days on
average per month.
In winter, Portugal has similar temperatures pattern to the Spanish
coastal towns, with daytime maximum of around 16 °C (61 °F). You can
expect five to six hours of sunshine per day on average and around 14
totally dry days per month.
In spring temperatures average up to 22 °C (72 °F) by May. Then you
can expect ten hours of sunshine per day on average, with about 18
totally dry days per month.
...but remember those are the average temperatures from
"metoffice.gov.uk", so you can of course see them quite a lot higher
at times, which means that sometimes they are lower too.
We have a green and pleasant land here on the Silver Coast and that's
largely because we do have a varied climate.
We do hope to see you again, for longer next time.
Kind regards,
David.
