Hang Gliding, Paragliding & Microlights on the Silver Coast
Extreme sports like Hang Gliding and Paragliding are popular on
the Silver Coast and pilots are frequently seen using thermals
to launch themselves from cliffs and then soaring above the
almost empty expanses of beach in various places from the Obidos
Lagoon to Nazare and beyond. This sequence below shows
Paragliding and "soaring" over the beach at Pedra do Ouro.

As well as Hang Gliding and Paragliding at the beach of Bom
Sucesso, Microlight aircraft fly from the small airfield at
Arelho located at the inland end of the Obidos Lagoon and I've
also included two videos of those....
This real time action video below is of a Microlight flight over
the lagoon and gives a realistic feel for what it must be like
to fly over the Lagoa de Óbidos and coastline and the views are
truly astounding when the pilot can keep the camera under
control.

This sequence of still photos in the video below is selected
from a similar flight and starts with take off and ends with
landing at the same small grass airfield located at Arelho a few
kilometres up the Lagoa de Óbidos and near to Caldas da Rainha.
On route the video sequence includes some spectacular aerial
shots of Caldas the Obidos Lagoon, the beaches at the ocean
opening at Foz do Arelho and Bom Sucesso and the coastline and
landscape around the Lagoa de Óbidos.
